A couple of weeks ago, I had the opportunity to try out devices such as the Superion Radar LTE and Omega HD Nitro at Cherry Mobile’s private unboxing event. Another one I was able to get my hands on was the Cherry Mobile Flare S4 Lite, which is an entry level handset with an interesting feature: a hexa-core processor. Here are some of my impressions after spending some time with the Flare S4 Lite.
What’s in the Box?
The Flare S4 Lite comes in your typical Cherry Mobile retail box with all the standard accessories. Not pictured above is the 2,000mAh battery because I had already inserted it into the phone and started playing around with it. Here’s the complete list of what you’re getting:
- Handset
- Headset with in-line mic
- Wall charger
- Micro USB to USB cable
- 2,000mAh battery
- Cherry Play quick start guide
- User manual
Design
The Flare S4 Lite looks like any other touchscreen smartphone from the front, but does have some character thanks to a textured back cover. The front is dominated by a large 5 inch HD IPS display, while a silver strip runs along the edges to lend it even more character.

Hardware
Driving the Cherry Mobile Flare S4 Lite is a MediaTek MT6591 hexa-core chipset clocked at 1.5GHz to go along with 1GB RAM and 8GB of storage. Hexa-core SoCs have been rare in the Philippine market, but they’ve been around for a while. This configuration is far from a world beater, but it should still deliver plenty enough performance for most apps and games.
Software
Interestingly enough, the Flare S4 Lite manages to come with Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box. Most of Cherry Mobile’s new releases now come with Lollipop and it’s nice to see this phone following that trend. It’s also mostly stock too, with the usual Cherry Mobile wallpaper customizations and a bit of preloaded apps, such as Opera Mini and KakaoTalk .
Impressions
At Php3,999, you’re getting a serviceable entry-level handset that should do everything a smartphone should do anything you would want it to do. Considering you only need to add Php1k more to get the Flare 4 or S4, but if your budget can’t be stretched any further, the Cherry Mobile Flare S4 Lite isn’t a bad choice.
